Inspiration 🎉

I’ve always loved nightlife, being social, and living as the life of the party.
Parties aren’t just about music and dancing — they’re about creating spaces where people connect, share experiences, and build memories.
That energy inspired me to build 234 AfterDark Hub — a digital reflection of nightlife culture, powered by Storyblok.

What it does 🚀

234 AfterDark Hub is a neon-themed platform where everything runs from Storyblok CMS.
It brings nightlife online with four main features:

  • Events → Upcoming parties with details like date, city, and ticket links.
  • Sponsors → Cards that highlight brand partners with logos and links.
  • Gallery → A responsive photo grid + fullscreen lightbox for event memories.
  • Confessions → An interactive box where anyone can submit anonymous secrets, tag them, and react with ❤️🔥😂.

How we built it 🛠️

  • Frontend: React + Vite with Tailwind CSS for fast, modern styling.
  • CMS: Storyblok for structured content (events, sponsors, galleries, confessions).
  • API: Storyblok Management API to allow writing and publishing confessions in real time.
  • Extras:
    • Dark/Light mode toggle 🌙☀️
    • Random confession generator 🎲
    • Reaction system (❤️🔥😂)
    • Neon theme + animations for the nightlife vibe.

Challenges we ran into ⚡

  • Figuring out how to properly connect Storyblok’s Management API for write-access.
  • Handling real-time updates so confessions and reactions appear instantly.
  • Getting image assets from Storyblok’s CDN to display correctly in the gallery and sponsor sections.
  • Debugging React Router conflicts while keeping the app clean and responsive.

Accomplishments that we're proud of 🏆

  • Built a fully functional CMS-driven app in just a few days.
  • Successfully integrated Storyblok’s write API for user submissions.
  • Designed an experience that feels like nightlife — vibrant, fun, and interactive.
  • Created features (confessions, reactions, live updates) that show off Storyblok’s flexibility.

What we learned 📚

  • How to use Storyblok as a true headless CMS beyond static content — including real-time interactivity.
  • The power of structured content and folders in Storyblok to keep projects organized.
  • How to polish user experience with small touches (dark mode, animations, reactions) that make a big difference.
  • Timeboxing features is essential — better to ship polished essentials than half-done extras.

What's next for 234 AfterDark Hub 🔮

  • User profiles → so people can keep track of their confessions and reactions.
  • Algolia integration → smart search across events, sponsors, and confessions.
  • Mobile-first progressive web app → turn this into a nightlife app people can use on the go.
  • Community features → polls, live chat, and leaderboards for the most-liked confessions.
  • Expand beyond demo → launch as a real nightlife hub for Abuja, Lagos, and beyond.
