Inspiration
This project was for our orientation hackathon: creating a portfolio in teams of 2-3. As a group, we decided to create a responsive webpage that will have contain important information about ourselves. We want to change the colors to have a 'flamingo' theme to the website.
What it does
Our homepage focuses on our summaries: what we do as students, what we're studying, and what we want to do for a career. There are buttons that lead to different sections of our portfolio: Work Experience, our Hobbies, Current/Previous Education, the locations we've been around the world featuring an interactive map, and our contact information.
How we built it
We used Github and Discord to collaborate/communicate with each other. Flask and Jinja was used for the backend framework, Google Map API for the interactive map, HTML for the structure and CSS for the styling
Challenges we ran into
There was a steep learning curve utilizing Jinja with Flask, as we've never used Jinja before. Github was okay: we didn't face any conflicts but we were still trying to maneuver our way to avoid any potential code loss.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to meet all the criteria outlined for this hackathon, as well as be able to utilize new technologies such as Jinja. We also collaborated very well with each other, and communication was at an all time high.
What we learned
How to use Flask and Jinja and the template system, utilize a Google API to visualize locations were we have visited, and use Github for collaboration purposes.
What's next for 22.FAL.12 - Functional Flamingos Team 1?
We can improve the responsiveness of the website, and add more elements to the webpage to increase viewer engagement. Also, we can try to add more visuals and colors.
