(what the full animation was supposed to look like if the code worked)
Inspiration
The theme of Technica's 2025 event is bring your ideas to life, and when looking through the categories, we saw the category made for beginners (middle schoolers and high schoolers us!), and saw how the prize was a weighted cat plushie. Inspiration struck, and so we decided to create a really cute fat cat game centered around the prize.
What it does
Players can travel around as a fat flying cat and play minigames as it accesses other peoples' houses.
How we built it
We divided and conquered, with one person working on design, and the other three working on coding the houses and minigames.
Challenges we ran into
Everyone coded their own separate parts, which meant that none of the variables were the same and so there was a lot of redundant actions, unfortunately.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
When we fixed massive bugs and got the animation to work, everyone was hugely satisfied (but idk if the animation still works since we combined code and have different variables :c )
What we learned
Honestly, we bit off a little bit more than we can chew and went way more ambitious than we could actually achieve. At the moment of writing this, I'm not sure if our project is actually finished but its okay, since we learn from our mistakes and know what to do next time at Technica 2026!
What's next for 2025 Fat Cat Dash
We will try to create more skins/colors for the cat, besides orange to make it even more interactive. We would also add more minigames and houses/areas for the user/cat to explore.
