Inspiration
Since one of the tenets of the hackathon was sustainability, we thought we'd make a project that helps people be more aware of the carbon footprint of their state.
What it does
It uses data scraped from the US Energy Information Administration to show the data when the state is hovered over. When a state is clicked, it links to pages that allow you to contact that respective state's legislature to help push for more reform.
How we built it
Our tech stack was HTML5, Javascript, & CSS
Challenges we ran into
The main issue we ran into is how to read the data from the file into the program so that we could display it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our team is proud of the clean look of our website as well as being able to learn so much in such a short period of time.
What we learned
We all heavily increased our abilities to use HTML, JS, & CSS.
What's next for 2020 US Energy-based Carbon Emissions by State Map
Given more time, we'd also like to include the ability to see more historical data as well as include other features, such the ability to compare states to one another.
