Inspiration
In the past, a lot of our team members have struggled with eye strain after prolonged screen time exposure. The idea for this project came from the eye strain members in our group experienced after prolonged screen time exposure. "What if we built an app that regulates the amount of time we spend in front of our screens by setting reminders every time we have spent exactly 20 minutes starring at our screens. In this way, users reduce the amount of strain on the eyes.
What it does
20-20 runs in the background and reminds the user every 20 minutes to look up from the phone and stare at something approximately 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Users can customize profile settings to adjust to different activities such as gaming and studying.
How we built it
Android Studio, Java, XML, GitHub
Challenges we ran into
Android Studio uses a different version of Java for developing mobile applications.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to say that we've created a program that can help such a wide audience of people throughout the world (including people who suffer from eye strain after prolonged screen time exposure.
What we learned
Daniel learned to use Java with Android Studio, Dan learned XML, and Emily was the glue that held everything together.
What's next for 20-20
We would love to integrate calendar options.
