Inspiration
Blackouts are obviously extremely dangerous and can lead to severe injury or harm. It is important to be able to detect blackouts beyond typical alcohol intoxication, such as a situation where somebody has been drugged against their knowledge, or is experiencing an unusual side effect from their prescription medication. My game is a quick, simple, free, fun way for anybody to test the short-term memory of their friends in any context.
What it does
Each player is shown a color and a number which they are instructed to memorize for 2 minutes. A timer counts down, then the players are asked for their number and letter. It’s almost effortless and it literally only takes two minutes.
How we built it
A lot of credit goes to Rosebud AI and the Github copiliot for helping me write the code, although honestly they were not as helpful as one might imagine.
Challenges we ran into
Browser compatibility is still an issue. It works on Edge and Firefox, but not Chrome.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This project is finished! The whole thing runs on a single page of html.
What we learned
Lots of little discoveries related to UI and UX. One major insight I had which will affect all my future UI design is the technique of keeping buttons inactive until information has been entered, which helps prevent accidental button presses and guides the user journey. For example, on the opening screen you can not even see the Start button until after you have entered at least one player name.
What's next for 2 Minute Memory Test
To publicize this project I plan to order hundreds of custom drink coasters and distribute them to bars and restaurants far and wide. Hopefully this can make a real impact.
