Inspiration

College application can be hard for first generation students, especially the ones who are financially challenged. Even in most progressive state like California, there are thousands of students who fail to join or graduate from a university. About 16.4% of Californians, i.e, more than 6 million people, live under poverty line. Since education is the key factor for escaping poverty, we wanted to help the unprivileged students get into college in an affordable manner.

What it does

This app brings first generation unprivileged students to the scholarship sponsors. It creates profile for students. These students can apply for through app. The sponsors will be able to view these students and their profile to determine the eligibility.

How we built it

We created this app on Android Studio. Our team was divided into three groups namely, graphics team, database and dev team.

Challenges we ran into

We had to complete the business analysis of the idea of the client.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Helping the client, who happens to be a first generation student(for life).

What we learned

Completing the UX design as a process to truly understand the user's need.

What's next for 1st Gen (Android)

  1. Creating an app for the sponsors.
  2. Implementing search engine for sponsors.
  3. Integrating college search and info functionality.
