Inspiration

We were inspired by Mad Max Fury Road but also by the origins of cinema.

What it does

It is an AI short film made a 100% by generated AI rushes using VEO2.

How we built it

This project is a short film entirely created using AI in early 2025. Since generative AI was still quite inconsistent at that time, only 20% of the generated images were partially usable. Therefore, it took three of us about 10 days to generate enough shots to create a coherent film. We also took into account the most efficient aspects of generative AI, trying to avoid shots with too much human presence and especially close-ups of faces, which would have immediately betrayed the film's AI nature.

Challenges we ran into

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are particularly proud of the result and the fact that many people forgot it was an AI film. And we are extremely proud to have received the Best Short Film award at the Omni International Film Festival from George Miller, the director of Mad Max: Fury Road, one of our main influences for this film.

What we learned

We have learned to master some of the current tools of generative AI and we have also learned how to exploit generative AI narratively where it is most optimal.

What's next for 1895

Following the successful experience of 1895, we are currently finalizing the production of a new short film, somewhere between Jules Verne and John Carpenter.
