Inspiration
While reading about the Indian freedom struggle, I came across a pivotal moment in history — India’s first war for independence. This deeply inspired me to create a space dedicated to preserving the memories of the unsung heroes and the rich history of that era.
What it does
This project serves as a virtual book that allows users to revisit the past, connecting with the freedom fighters who revolted for a free India and gaining a deeper understanding of their sacrifices.
How I built it
The website is primarily developed using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. With some external resources and proper citations, I was able to curate historical content into an engaging, interactive visual experience.
Challenges I ran into
While HTML and CSS were straightforward, the newest addition to my tech vocabulary—mapping pins and coordinates on the map of India—proved challenging. However, after persistence, I successfully implemented it.
Accomplishments that I am proud of
The final look of the website matched my vision perfectly, which I consider a significant accomplishment.
What we learned
I gained hands-on experience with new JavaScript and CSS features, especially while working on the coordinate mapping and creating the interactive timeline — both of which were new challenges for me.
What’s next for 1857: Unmuted Revolt
Building on recent learnings, I plan to add more untold stories, enhance interactive features, and enable users to contribute their own insights to enrich the project.
