Inspiration
With most teams focussing on reducing their carbon emissions, we felt the need to really flip the coin and focus instead on increasing the positive impact of our lifestyle on the planet. We deeply in the power of positivity to raise awareness and inspire people to take action. Therefore, we want to provide humanity the opportunity to team up with plants, the carbon-consuming, oxygen-producing lifeforms that made our atmosphere habitable in the first place.
What it does
Plant-li strives to integrate a powerful plant-recommendation engine with a digital representation of people’s gardens and the ability to track the amount of CO2 absorbed by their plants from the atmosphere.
How we built it
The backend is a python server built on several common python frameworks and the frontend is built in ReactJS running on an apache2 Webserver.
Challenges we ran into
It is very hard to come by large datasets that have all the values we needed. On top of this, estimating the CO2 absorption from the provided values proved harder than expected.
You can try it out for yourself on plant.li and get the source code on GitHub: Frontend Backend
