Did you know that about 40% of the homeless population in the US is under the age of 18? Well that's why we invented Life Patch. Life Patch is an up-cycled coat that grows with the wearer for life. It is a basic bodice coat with extenders that can attach and detach around the waist, arms, and torso. This way the wearer can simply attach extenders as they grow rather than buying an entirely new coat. With the help of a thrift store we'll start in conjunction with this, the coat will be extremely cheap to make. We will take the donated clothes we receive that aren't acceptable to sell and will shred it to use as the fill for the coat. Our profits from the thrift store will help us to buy hardware like zippers and the other remaining materials needed to make Life Patch. Because of this Life Patch will be extremely affordably if not free for those below the poverty line within the community. We were inspired by low income/ homeless families who have children that can't afford coats especially as they continue to grow. Therefore this coat is the perfect life- long garment for growing kids of low income families within the community. Once the wearer grows out of their current Life Patch, they can come back to our store and receive extender pieces that will be zippered onto the basic bodice so the coat can grow with them. We are using Clo3D to come up with a simulation of the garment which will be a challenge since it's nothing we've made on Clo before.
