Inspiration and Goals

Loneliness is not only a phenomenon that occurs in times like these but is an every day issue. Almost 10 percent of Germans suffer from loneliness. But how to help these people? How to give them back a sense of belonging and a feeling of affiliation? How to strengthen communities so that they can overcome even difficult times?

Why neighbors?

Neighbours are the people who always surround us, even if we may not even know them. But especially in difficult times, such as during the current crisis, but also in case of illness or everyday problems, neighbors are the people who can help the fastest. We believe that a good neighbourhood community is a basis for a healthy, sustainable and strong society. Therefore, we would like to support neighborhoods with our project.

How does it work?

TüranTür is a system that invites people to become active. The main component is a screen system, which is installed in the entrance area of apartment buildings. Every time someone passes the screen, it asks the person to take part in a random challenge. The challenges aim at provoking interaction and exchange between the neighbors. That is the reason why TürAnTür starts the interaction on its own initiative, without being asked. A task could for instance be to write a short letter to a neighbor you haven't talked to, yet. The nature of the tasks can be adjusted in the system. In times of Corona, the tasks that do not require personal contact, such as writing letters, exchanging recipes via the mailbox, or placing chocolate in front of a neighbor's door.

Over time, the neighbors get to know each other better, strengthen their community and build a collection of memories together. Furthermore TürAnTür does not exclude anyone due to a lack of technology knowledge. No further technology is needed. However, the TürAnTür app can be used additionally to help you remembering challenges and to share pictures of your challenges in the common gallery of the neighborhood. With the help of the gallery a collection of all shared moments is created.

And of course everyone is wondering when the next letter will arrive in their mailbox...
