Inspiration
I took my 10 year old son to the 2016 Global Game Jam and this is the game we made together.
What it does
Basic FPS Robot shooter Shoot Robots, Find Keys, Open Doors
How we built it
I built the individual components, like the wall pieces, robots, keys etc. And he created the levels from the pieces I provided. For a 10 year old he did an awesome job creating the level from the prefabs that I gave him.
Challenges we ran into
I didn't anticipate exactly how many robots he would put in the scene. I had to create a zone manager that could manage which robots where active to reduce draw calls.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Super proud of my son for learning how to use unity and putting together a level like this!
What we learned
You can get a lot done in unity when you create re-useable prefabs. Unity is daunting but even a 10 year old can learn to design levels given enough determination.
What's next for Attack Bots
My 10 year old is already making more levels. So come back periodically for updates.
