Inspiration
The unexpected pressure after returning to on-campus activities was very overwhelming for the team members of this project.
What it does
Acts as a student mental health support blog where everyone will post and connect with each other.
How we built it
We implemented Python with Flask, HTML, CSS, Javascript, Bootstrap, SQLAlchemy, and a few separately installed Flask libraries.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge we faced is when we had to store the credentials in the database table and at the same verify if the users already existed or not. It was exceptionally challenging for us since none of us coded using SQLAlchemy before, so we had to research overnight and be done with the project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are aware of the fact that our website is not too sophisticated but at the same time, our main goal is to send a message to the University of South Florida and urge them to be more actively working for the well-being of the students and results be reflected in the classrooms and syllabus for degree-seeking students.
What we learned
We learned a lot about how to incorporate databases into a website and how to access those data for specific purposes.
What's next for USF STUDENT MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT
We are planning to build this website into a one-stop point of all types of mental health support and available resources and even campaign to urge other students in the US to build similar websites for their own educational institutions.
