Inspiration

Our inspiration comes from using trivia apps when we were younger to study for tests. However, these apps used complete studying and no rewarding, fun breaks in between and didn't have many study tactics either. This inefficiency pushed us to build a simple app that provides customized quizzes created by the user while also being able to use practice question sets created by the public.

What it does

Trivia Maker is an app using event triggers, user input, and adaptive tactical studying features to help students study more efficiently. Since students waste precious hours trying to memorize vague or broad concepts; however, Trivia Maker focuses on giving students specific topics and questions. Trivia Maker gives the user an option to create their own question set or to try out a public question set created by someone else, and if the user gets all of them right, they would get to play fun, rewarding games!

How we built it

To build Trivia Maker, we used HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript as well as complementary platforms like Visual Studio Code, Supabase (for storing question sets in a complex database), and Render (for hosting the published version of the site).

Challenges we ran into

We got multiple loading errors and semantic styling errors when testing our prototype version. Our product encountered multiple loading errors when loading and closing windows or just clearing the game container and replacing it with the new slide instead. We used Gemini to resolve these small issues, especially small styling issues like centering buttons or fixing the navbar to the top of the screen.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Some things that we are proud of are being able to get to a working product in such a small amount of time, with the goal of attracting many customers and students to use our product. We are also proud of being able to resolve many issues while building our app. Lastly, we learned how to use LiveShare by building this app, and knowing how to use this extension will be important for the future.

What we learned

There were many things we learned as a team, and the most important one was probably to work as a real "company." By building Trivia Maker, we learned how to use LiveShare, work on a project with parallel editing, and splitting up different features of the project.

What's next for Trivia Maker

We are going to add a time tracker to help people manage their time for studying. This way, students would receive another benefit for using Trivia Maker. As a result, users would not only be able to create, study, and use their own quizzes, but they would also be able to track their time using the same app and make sure they were using their time wisely and make the best out of studying.
