TransSmart – Smarter Routes. Better Logistics

Inspiration

Modern logistics is the backbone of global trade, yet a significant portion of freight operations still depends on fragmented systems, manual coordination, and limited visibility.

One of the most critical inefficiencies in the industry is the problem of empty return trips, where trucks travel back after completing deliveries without carrying any load. This results in:

  • Significant fuel wastage
  • Increased operational costs for transporters
  • Higher carbon emissions impacting the environment
  • Underutilization of available logistics capacity

In addition to this, the ecosystem faces several structural challenges:

  • Shippers struggle to find reliable transporters quickly
  • Transport providers have limited visibility into available jobs
  • Lack of real-time tracking reduces transparency and trust
  • Inefficient route planning leads to delays and higher costs

Recognizing these challenges, we set out to build TransSmart, a platform designed to bring intelligence, automation, and efficiency into logistics operations.


What it does

TransSmart – Smarter Routes. Better Logistics is a smart logistics coordination platform that connects shippers and transporters through a unified digital ecosystem.

The platform enables:

  • Posting and managing shipment jobs
  • Intelligent transporter matching
  • Optimized delivery route recommendations
  • Real-time shipment tracking
  • Secure payments with automated invoice generation
  • Reviews and ratings to build trust

It also reduces empty return trips through:

  • Nearby job recommendations
  • Load clubbing (combining shipments along similar routes)

How we built it

Frontend

  • React.js for dynamic UI
  • Tailwind CSS for responsive design
  • Leaflet / Mapbox for map visualization

Backend

  • Node.js and Express.js

  • Job management
  • Trip lifecycle tracking
  • Transporter assignment
  • Payment processing

Database

  • MongoDB and PostgreSQL
