After writing the soundtracks for more than 80 films, an inner voice became louder and louder that it was time to realize my first own film as a director. As a great lover of science fiction films, I have been influenced by this genre all my life. The desire to make a highly visual movie about futuristic worlds with extraterrestrial creatures, spaceships, robotics and androids grew and grew. However, I didn't have a movie in mind in the classic sense of an action Star Wars movie, but rather one with a philosophical bent about evolution, religion and the current crisis-ridden world situation. I knew that my screenplay for this film would be horrendously expensive and that I would spend years fighting for funding, so I decided to make an AI-generated science fiction film. I had been working intensively with AI for years and finally wrote the script in spring 2024. In the end, I "shot" or "prompted" the movie. Because that's the procedure for AI films: you first create a textual prompt for a possible scene, such as "a dark, menacing and large spaceship approaches the earth from left to right, with the sun rising behind the horizon." I have found that the realization of an AI-generated film is almost as complex as a real film adaptation. A prompt can look completely different than expected, static or uninspired. I had to repeat every single scene up to 50 times until the prompts connected coherently. AI allowed me to take the script in a new direction while I was working, because the unpredictable can be seen in the prompt, e.g. a huge whirlwind suddenly appearing from the spaceship to Earth, so that the script can be developed further. I created up to 3,000 prompts (film shots) for this 13-minute film, in high resolution with all kinds of tools from camera movements, lighting positions, speeds, look design, image formats, color adjustments or prompt extensions. The voice over AI is also generated. I had decided to make a movie without classic main protagonists, but instead for individual beings and groups in the collective, who tell the events of my story. I did the editing, film music, sound design, dubbing and film mixing myself in the conventional way, as I am "actually" a film composer. From the very beginning, it was important to me to tell my dark emotional story through a cinematic, futuristic visual language, which is what AI enabled me to do in the first place. We are still at the very beginning of this technical development.
