Inspiration

THE LAST EMBER was inspired by the idea of pushing the limits of what generative AI and my own craft can achieve, while uniting action, visuals, and storytelling. Even as a trailer—a fragment of a larger film—I wanted it to be more than a sequence of striking images. My intention was to create something where viewers can clearly feel both the narrative and the action woven into each moment.

How I built it

I designed the characters, equipment, aircraft, and overall world, generating shot-specific images tailored for the trailer using Midjourney, Nanobanana, Reve, Higgsfield popcorn and Seedream.

Each image was then animated with video-generation tools suited to its intended action. The tools used include Hailuo, Kling, and Veo. All music, sound effects, and dialogue were created with ElevenLabs.

All cuts were edited in Premiere Pro. Through color adjustments, transitions, and overall refinement, I completed the trailer for this project.

Challenges I ran into

To be honest, almost everything was a challenge. I have only been using generative AI for a few months, and there are still many areas where my knowledge and technical skills are lacking. The most significant challenges for me in this project were maintaining as much consistency as possible in the characters and visual style for live-action imagery, and minimizing visual breakdowns during large-scale action sequences.

Throughout the project, I kept focusing on reaching the highest level currently possible for both myself and the still-evolving generative AI tools.

What I learned

Through this project, I learned that even if AI generates the images and videos, what truly matters is how we guide it, how we select the outputs, and how we shape and use what it creates.

What's next for THE LAST EMBER

I intend to continue strengthening my skills and expanding my knowledge, and I hope to create works across a range of genres in the future. No matter the genre, I want to build projects where the story remains at the core.
