Inspiration
For the K-12 track, we wanted to create an app that would establish a social learning atmosphere, even with limitations on traditional in-person education. We drew inspiration from UC Berkeley's campus app, Berkeley Mobile, as well as scheduling site, LettuceMeet.com, and the voicechatting app, ClubHouse. We synthesized different aspects of each tool and incorporated more features in our app, called Studdy - connecting you to an optimal study buddy.
What it does
After signing up on the app, Studdy will show users personalized interests page, events page, study groups page, and meets page. One particularly useful tool on our app, study buddy matching, is found on the study groups page. Study buddies are matched based on how helpful they would be to one another, or in other words, how mutually beneficial the studying would be. Study buddy compatibility is determined by their time availability and analysis of how difficult each student found a particular homework set. If one student struggled with the same questions that the other student found easy, and vice versa, and have the same preferred times to study, they would have ideal study buddy compatibility. To motivate students to study, we also gamified the experience by giving reward points to students who participate in study groups and study with their Studdies (plural of Studdy) for a certain amount of time. They are able to claim points for every 30 minutes they are in the study rooms. These points can be redeemed as discounts for shops and restaurants locally.
How we built it
We wrote sample code on Python that fulfills the basic capabilities of Studdy: user-selected interests, the algorithm for study buddy matching, and the sign-in page.

Challenges we ran into and Accomplishments that we're proud of
All of us were coming from different countries and different time zones. One of us from Philippines, one of us from America, One of us from Turkey and One of us from India. It was a real challenge for us to work together because of the 10+ hours time difference but we handle it really well. Our team was a hardworking female team and all of us learned from other other. Ceyda used Figma for the first time of her life and others challenge themselves to learn more about coding and design.
What we learned
We learned how to use Figma effectively, how to connect people via software and how to built a networking platform as an academic way.
What's next for Studdy
We would like to match Figma CSS codes with Python codes better and renew the interface for users via feedbacks. Also we would like to work on business models and deal with companies and schools to make our app worldwide.
