Inspiration

We love to cook, but often dietary restrictions get in the way of us enjoying new recipes. Specifically, one of us is gluten free, and it is difficult to have to search for different, more accommodating recipes after finding one you like. This website will display the publicly top ranked recipe for a dish, as well as the favorite modifications (to accommodate others). These edits can be seen along with the original recipe to demonstrate exactly what is being substituted, added, or removed. Users can share their favorite recipes with their friends, and other contributors can add their own flair to improve the recipe.

What it does

FÜD Network aggregates popular recipes that are gathered from the spoonacular api calls on the server. The main focus of FÜD Network is to highlight similarities in recipes, to help home cooks find new and exciting tweaks on their old favorites.

Challenges we ran into

The team struggled initially due to a lack of experience building websites and developing advanced programming applications. More time than anticipated was spent over the course of the event building the groundwork for the website, which limited our ability to integrate all the additional functionality we had hoped to include. However, by the end of the event our team was able to construct a product that achieved our goal of building a more interactive and inclusive community for food lovers.

Accomplishments that we are proud of

The FÜD Network team worked through the initial challenges we faced stemming from a lack of experience to learn more and improve upon our Python, html, css, and bootstraps skills. With this added knowledge, we successfully resolved our problems and were able to build this website. It was a humbling experience and a great learning opportunity for the whole team!

What's next for FÜD Network

Expanding the FÜD Network functionality to make it more interactive and personalized for users. The end goal of this is to create a community of passionate individuals that want to share their cooking experiences and recipes with their peers. Additionally, we hope to provide a service to people with dietary restrictions where they can easily find recipes for new meals that fit their preferences or needs.
