Santa Cruz is a community rich with culture and history, and it's student body perfectly reflects that. UCSC is filled with creative and talented minds that create their own products. However, what if we provide a safe and reliable platform for students to show off their skills and build entrepreneurship opportunities?

Sluggers UCSC E-marketplace is an online shop where every student has an account tied with their UCSC student ID. Once students log in, they can choose to purchase items that other students have made, or they can choose to sell their own creations! Everything from custom knitted beanies, to spare computer parts or textbooks, students can support their fellow classmates and increase financial involvement.

The main components of our project utilize HTML/CSS for the different web pages. Javascript is used for simple calculations, such as the subtotal of the items in the shopping cart. The front-end portion was completed successfully, but back-end proved itself to be a little more difficult. As first time Firebase users, we attempted to save each item as a data item itself, but we couldn't get it working. However, this is a main component in our project, and we anticipate implementing it soon. One thing that did work was the authentication system. We used Firebase authentication so users can log in with their email and password. It works as intended, and it is definitely something we are very proud of.

In the future, we also plan on implementing an auction-style marketplace. The seller makes the starting price, and students will see the current highest bid in real time. We believe this would make our application stand out from just a normal online store, but it is definitely a stretch goal.
