Inspiration

Rabbit Hole: Beyond the Event Horizon was inspired by the astrophysical theory that our universe might exist inside a supermassive black hole. That idea, that everything we know could be contained within an event horizon, felt like the perfect canvas for a dark, electronic, sci-fi music story. From there came the core question: What if a band became astronaut-musicians sent to the edge of that black hole? The project also pays homage to classic sci-fi TV, especially The Twilight Zone. Reimagining that iconic and eerie intro in a modern AI context became a major artistic goal. Musically, the project brings together electronic and industrial group Bit Torment, with keyboards and production by John Bechdel (from the Grammy-nominated industrial band Ministry), vocals by Aya Gruber, and bass, guitar, and production by Brett Fisher (The Hits Doctor).

What it does

The video tells a cinematic sci-fi story driven by an original electronic and industrial track: • Bit Torment is portrayed as astronaut-musicians on a mission to the edge of a supermassive black hole's event horizon. • As they cross space and time, they witness cosmic battles between living constellations: Cancer versus Orion, and Sagittarius versus Scorpio. • Their ship is pulled through the black hole into an alternate universe ruled by alien forces. • Captured by a Scorpio warship, the band performs aboard the alien craft as it plunges through another black hole, blending reality, myth, and music. The result is a visually explosive, AI-driven sci-fi music odyssey that fuses original music, narrative storytelling, and generative visuals into one cohesive experience.

How we built it

We used a hybrid workflow combining original music production with generative AI video tools and traditional post-production.

Concept and Storyboarding • Wrote a narrative centered on the theory of a universe contained within a black hole. • Designed sequences for launch, event horizon travel, constellation battles, capture, and performance.

AI Video Generation • Created scenes using advanced video generation models. • Refined prompts repeatedly to maintain character consistency for the band, design alien ships, and visualize constellations as living entities.

Music Production • Composed and produced the original track for Bit Torment. • John Bechdel contributed keyboards and production. • Aya Gruber recorded vocals. • Brett Fisher created the bass, guitar, additional production, and overall sound design.

Twilight Zone Style Intro • Designed a retro sci-fi introduction inspired by the classic show. • Used AI to create a vintage-sounding narrator voice that sets up the story.

Editing and Post-Production • Assembled AI-generated clips into a narrative timeline. • Performed color grading, timing adjustments, transitions, and musical sync. • Balanced AI spontaneity with careful manual editing to maintain clarity.

Challenges we ran into

• Twilight Zone Style Intro and AI Narrator Voice Recreating a vintage, Twilight Zone inspired introduction with AI was difficult. The AI narrator voice was especially challenging because achieving the specific tone, pacing, and eerie authority of a classic sci-fi host required extensive iteration. • Character Consistency Keeping Bit Torment's astronaut characters visually consistent across scenes proved difficult. Slight prompt changes could produce different character designs. • Complex Cosmic Battles Depicting living constellations in combat pushed AI models into unfamiliar territory. It took many attempts to achieve coherent and mythic battle sequences. • Black Hole and Event Horizon Visualization Representing gravitational lensing, distortion, and the surreal experience of crossing an event horizon required creative prompt strategies and post-processing. • Maintaining Narrative Clarity AI visuals can become chaotic or overly abstract. Selecting and sequencing the right clips was essential to keep the story understandable from beginning to end

Accomplishments that we're proud of

• Creating a complete sci-fi narrative entirely through generative AI. • Successfully producing a Twilight Zone inspired intro with AI visuals and voice synthesis. • Blending professional musical performances with AI-driven cinematic storytelling. • Developing unique sequences of constellation battles and alien universes. • Establishing Rabbit Hole as Part One of a three-part AI music-video series leading to Bit Torment's 2026 debut album.

What we learned

• AI works best when treated as a creative collaborator rather than a shortcut. • Strong narrative structure dramatically improves the impact of AI-generated visuals. • Voice synthesis requires skill, patience, and many iterations to capture emotional nuance. • Hybrid workflows that mix AI generation with traditional editing unlock new artistic possibilities. • Limitations can become strengths by inspiring more imaginative solutions.

What's next for Rabbit Hole: Beyond the Event Horizon – AI Music Video

• Creating an AI Horror Music Video for Part Three of the Bit Torment AI music-video trilogy for Bit Torments new song titled, The Horror. Note: We are submitting our 1st AI Music video "Ghost in the City" which is a cover of The Crystal Method and features 2 members of the Industrial band Ministry. • Building a full visual album experience for the 2026 Bit Torment release. • Developing live shows that sync AI-generated visuals with performances. • Exploring interactive narrative extensions and companion digital art pieces. • Advancing character consistency techniques and longer-form AI filmmaking.
