Inspiration
We wanted to make a boring activity like gardening fun.
What it does
Petalverse is a fun game that can be played on a VR headset. The application takes a quick scan of your room and then plants flowers all around it. The goal of the game is to water the flowers that appear around the room and gain money.
How we built it
We built this application using the Unity Game Engine, Meta SDK and the Meta Quest 3. Additionally, we made use of a lot of other packages and assets that unity has to offer.
Challenges we ran into
There were a lot of challenges that we ran into. One of the biggest ones was getting multiplayer to work. Even though both Unity and Meta SDK come with resources to help with this, there is still a lot that you have to figure out on your own. The furthest that we got with multiplayer was getting both players to spawn on both screens, but only one player could move. Another challenge was implementing NavMesh in XR for NPCs to be able to navigate a map.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Even though we were only a team of 2, we managed to create a very complete application with a lot of functionality. This felt even more rewarding since we had spent a lot of time going back and forth between ideas.
What we learned
We learned a lot about game development with Unity, C# and thinking critically. There were a lot of challenging moments where we had to learn new things about Unity and game development, especially related to XR, however it was fun!
