We were inspired by the passion to serve our community in a way that would tackle the issue of climate change at the same time. We were also appalled at the sheer amount of food waste that is produced yearly and wanted to come up with a viable solution to tackle that issue.
What it does
Peri connects leftover meals from the hospitality industry to food banks and homeless shelters. It aims to reduce the amount of food waste while providing quality food sources to the vulnerable.
How we built it
We started off by using a jam board to come up with a low fidelity prototype. We then used Figma to design the user interface.
Challenges we ran into
It was a bit of an adjustment to use Figma because it was our first time using it for a hackathon. As such, it took longer than expected to complete certain parts of our prototype.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
For two of us, this was our first hackathon! It was great learning about tech and the ways we could use our skillsets in a unique environment. For most of us, this was also our first time using Figma for a project.
What we learned
We learned that creating a unique and feasible prototype was not easy! We went through multiple ideas before we found one that we were content with.
What's next for Peri
We'd love to scale to other cities and extend our services to other industries that require solutions for waste management. We'd also like to focus on developing our solution further.
