Inspiration
Based on our experience, it is hard to find people or approach people to do things together that you like, or even do things with people without being judged. This was what inspired us to come up with OnlyFriends, which helps to connect everyone, regardless of income, physical abilities or social background, to come together and enjoy any activities together, forming a healthy bond.
What it does
OnlyFriends is a social media app that helps to connect people from all walks of life regardless of their social background or their social status. To make it safer and have a more Singaporean feel, we have come up with registering for accounts using SingPass. Once the sign up, they will be able to set their profile and pick their interest. The app will have an AI that helps to recognize the texts between the parties and sieve out the keywords in the conversation. The AI will then suggest activities that the parties can do together and even come up with a location that is suitable and easy for both parties to reach. This app has many categories, and it does not just limit to sports. It can even be a mentorship meetups, educational helps etc.
How we built it
The prototype of our app is built using Figma, and the early developments of the app is built using Flutter.
Challenges we ran into
The challenges we faced were to meet the tight deadline while tryign to build a successful app and come up with an idea that is somewhat similar to what we have in the present but making it better.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite the tight deadline, we are proud that we could all come together to come up with an idea and finish up a prototype for presentation.
What we learned
We have learnt to come up with a prototype that is user friendly and easy to use for anyone of all ages. Furthermore, we have also learnt to slowly understand the problem on inequality and how to tweak our minds to solve this issue.
What's next for OnlyFriends
If OnlyFriends were to be successful, we intend to spread it across Singaporeans in other countries before thinking of ways to expand it to other countries, which means we will have to make it locally special (example: SingPass for Singapore).
