Inspiration

During the pandemic, the world switched to online. However, our learning experiences deteriorated, and course completion decreased by 8.5% (Bird et al). lt's hard to stay focused over zoom, let alone when you're doing a course by yourself. Based on our conversations with EY employees, these sentiments were shared. What we need is an interactive platform that rewards progress, and allows for you to communicate with others in whatever capacity works best for the learner.

This is where we come in - by introducing OdyssEY, a learning journey through the metaverse. With just a VR headset, you can enter a revolutionary world with colleagues going through the same learning process as yourself. You can freely walk through our metaverse, and engage in learning pods to work on your courses, or join your colleagues in the lounge to chat, network, or practice your professional skills.

What it does

OdyssEY stands out because of its aspect of personalization of learning, and gamification.

1) The platform leverages AI/ML applications and open-source projects to deliver a learning experience that personalized to every individual learn and their needs. The algorithm learns with you, and improves your unique experience the more you use it. What you put into OdyssEY is what you get.

2) We propose introducing a web3 currency, EYen, where employees can gain EYen that can be cashed out into real rewards through activity.

To earn rewards, you can:

  • practice your elevator pitching skills with a colleague
  • work on your course one hour a day
  • ...and much more!

Potential rewards could include discounts to businesses by clientele, introducing a two-way relationship and strengthening the bond between EY and its clients. Additionally, this not only incentivizes employees, but it incentivizes companies all around the world to partner with EY, to increase their consumer base.

3) Equal accessibility. Along with personalized learning comes increased accessibility. Got ADHD? Tune out background noises. Got tinnitus? Try out our collection of background noises to enhance your learning. More of a hands-on learner? Choose between our various learning demos.

How we built it

We used Figma to illustrate our MVP and walk through the initial stages of OdyssEY. Check it out!

  • Understanding the problem and shortening the scope to better answer the prompt
  • Understanding pain points that real employees face
  • Delegating and sharing responsibilities within the group

  • Our prototype (first time designing in a VR environment)

What's next for OdyssEY

Although enhancing individual learning is important, we plan on introducing group learning in the metaverse. Additionally, to achieve our goal of being the most equally accessible online learning platform, we plan to make it easy to communicate between languages (including ASL) seamlessly, to break down the barriers we experience at the international level, and include those with more severe disabilities.
