Inspiration
As Orthodox Jewish women entering the workforce, we wanted to create something that would not only make our own lives easier, but also the lives of others.
What it does
Run a calculation to determine how many days of pay the user will have to give up to accommodate the scheduling demand of Orthodox Jewish holidays and other religious responsibilities.
How we built it
Used Java code in IntelliJ and JavaSwing as a GUI to get the input from the user.
Challenges we ran into
The algorithm- taking into account edge cases like weekends, days which were already given off by the company but were also Jewish holidays, etc. led to many bugs within the code.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are happy that our code works according to our original idea. We are proud of how accurately we were able to execute our original idea in a timely manner.
What we learned
We learned how to use GitHub, HashMaps and the debugger on IntelliJ
What's next for My Frum Calendar
Improve our algorithm to properly handle Shabbat and Sunday. Advance our output that is should give the user a printable calendar, create a better user interface and pull from calendar API's.
