Inspiration
Harika has previously worked with a virtual clinical trial platform and experienced firsthand what goes into patient recruitment and the difficulties from the clinical and patient sides.
Millions of patients need clinical trials to find new medical treatments to save lives. But there are difficult to recruit due to the complex jargon of what the clinical trials do, there is no integrated platform for patients to connect their medical information to potential opportunities, the clinical trials.gov website is not easily accessible, and overall recruitment requirements are challenging to understand.
This leads to the unmet need to connect users to relevant medical treatments through potential diagnoses, clinical trials, and additional resources.
What it does
MediConnect connects patients with an intuitive and accessible web platform for them to better understand their conditions and find treatments including clinical trials.
How we built it
We used EndlessMedicalAPI which uses ML to predict possible diseases based on given symptoms. Stored user information into GCP Firestore that encrypts passwords using bcrypt for security. Used a Clinical Trials Dataset (ClinicalTrials.gov) uploaded into GCP BigQuery that has application queries available clinical trials based on diseases and location. Additionally, we made a Web App that runs on Flask and UI on Adobe XD.
What we learned
We learned how to make a simple and intuitive UI for the patients to easily access treatment and clinical trial information. As well as how to use APIs that use ML to predict possible diseases based on given symptoms.
