Inspiration
We have all driven around town and encountered annoying potholes, but not everyone has the time to report every pothole that they come across.
What it does
Our project, Lots of Holes, is an app that runs on your phone while you drive that detects potholes or irregularities in the road and then maps the locations of the potholes onto a google map on our website for local government agencies to see.
How we built it
To make the android app, we used android studio to read accelerometer data. We used Javascript and JQuery to make the website.
Challenges we ran into
Our car died last night so we weren't able to use it to test our project. However, we overcame this by making a makeshift car out of swag we found around HackUMBC, and then made a test track with a pothole out of a pizza box.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of making a makeshift car to test of project on.
What we learned
We learned how to use the Google Maps API and JQuery/Javascript to create an interactive website.
What's next for Lots of Holes
We plan on improving the algorithm we use to detect bumps and error check other irregularities.
