Inspiration

Karma Dog was born from a small, everyday annoyance in my neighborhood: the eternal clash between irresponsible dog owners and the neighbors who silently endure them. I wanted to turn this universal frustration into a surreal, comedic micro-story about civic sense. The idea was to exaggerate a tiny behavior until it became a symbolic chain reaction, a kind of domestic fable where karma wears a mischievous grin.

What it does

Karma Dog uses a simple everyday conflict to reveal a deeper truth about human behavior. By exaggerating a tiny act of rudeness, the film turns a familiar situation into a compact moral loop where cause and effect collide. The short invites viewers to laugh first and reflect after, showing how even the smallest civic choices can echo back at us. It transforms an ordinary neighborhood scene into a playful reminder that our actions, good or bad, rarely travel alone.

How we built it

The project was created using a hybrid AI workflow.

Visuals were generated and animated through text-to-image in Midjourney and Freepik and image-to-video tools. Character consistency was maintained through custom prompts and iterative refinement. Some "voices" was performed by me, the rest are prompted in Elevenlabs

The structure followed a tight, 60–90 second storytelling arc designed for micro serie format.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge was balancing realism with surreal humor: the world needed to feel familiar enough for viewers to recognize themselves, yet strange enough to amplify the comedic tone. Another difficulty was achieving continuity between shots produced by different AI tools, especially facial expressions, lighting, and motion. Ensuring that the emotional rhythm, setup, escalation, and karmic twist, remained intact required multiple iterations.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Karma Dog started as a tiny idea and quickly grew into an unexpected journey. The short has already been selected and nominated in multiple international AI film festivals across different continents, proving that a micro-story about everyday civic sense can resonate far beyond its small setting.I am proud of how the project blended surreal humor, emotional clarity, and AI-driven visuals into a coherent narrative and of the fact that such a compact film could travel so far, so quickly.

What we learned

The experience reinforced how simplicity can be a creative advantage in AI filmmaking. Focusing on a single relatable situation allowed the tools to amplify mood, tension, and irony without losing the human core of the story. I learned how to maintain character continuity across different AI models, how to build micro-narratives with strong rhythm, and how to direct performance through voice-over when lip sync is unreliable. Most of all, I learned that authentic concepts connect, even when delivered through unconventional pipelines.

What's next for Karma Dog

The next steps could explore a series of short civic-sense episodes, each with its own ironic chain reaction. The visual style and tone also open the door to a larger anthology or brand-oriented micro-campaigns built around everyday behaviors.
