We take the interactions of mentees and mentors to the next level. Mentees follow a clear, personalized journey and benefit from suggested resources, whilst their progress is tangible and measurable.

Inspiration

We looked at other applications we knew (CANVAS, VMock, dating apps, and alike) and tried to replicate what we liked and improve what we didn't, focusing on key functionalities and making it as easy and user-friendly as possible.

What it does

JTConnect centralizes and automates the mentor-mentee relationship. It provides mentees with a structured yet personalized journey to follow, gamifies the process to boost participation and engagement, and makes progress and results tangible as well as traceable. Thereby it also allows the admin team to monitor and track the success of the relationships on the way. Most importantly, JTConnect take a lot of work off the administrators, and makes the Justice through Code program scalable from 30 to 300 mentees.

How we built it

We started by brainstorming, scribbling, and visualizing our ideas on post-its and paper. Once we had a clear vision of what we were aiming to build, we set up a LoFi Figma dashboard, focusing on the functionalities we wanted. After that, we created the HiFi version that visualized the desired functionalities in an easy, intuitive, and visually appealing way.

Challenges we ran into

Given that 3 out of our 5 team members got sick/injured themselves on Saturday and were unable to contribute as desired and planned, we really needed to focus on the key functions desired and work together as efficiently as possible. We implemented hybrid working modes, split up tasks based on our skills and expertise, and incorporated feedback loops to ensure quality work along the way.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of what we were able to build despite the above-mentioned constraints, and grateful for the strong team spirit we developed along the way.

What we learned

We learned a lot from each other, both in terms of ways of working as well as hands-on skills (e.g., using Figma).

What's next for JTConnect

  1. Code the application
  2. Launch it together with Justice for Code
  3. Refine and improve JTConnect based on user feedback, adding on more functionalities.
  4. Scaling JTConnect to other mentor-mentee-programs if desired.
