Inspiration
New York State recently passed a law called the Bottle Bill which requires consumers of recyclable beverages to pay the bottle deposit fee for each can or bottle they purchase. Most people simply pay this bottle deposit fee and do not think about going through the hassle of returning all their emptied cans and bottles. However, many people in need would love to make use of these cans and bottles as they would go through the process of depositing them to obtain that bottle deposit fee back.
What it does
Our app was made to promote recycling to help preserve the environment. People will post where they leave their cans so people who need the money can help recycle and keep the profit.
How we built it
We built our app on android studios. Our database is connected to Firebase. We used git for project management.
Challenges we ran into
We had a hard time storing images in the database. Took a long time to figure out that you can store them as a Stringbase64.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to mostly complete what we envisioned, and we have a more or less working app.
What we learned
This was our first time using android studios, so we learned a lot about the environment especially the front-end aspect where we can place and have restraints on objects. Not only that but learning how to connect the backend into our project was very difficult but rewarding.
What's next for JAR
JAR 2.0 hopefully will be well funded so we can use more relevant API's in our App. Such as Google Maps.
