Inspiration

The rate of unemployed young people in South Africa is ridiculously high and one of the major contributing factors to that is the fact that South Africans don't know how to write proper CVs.

What it does

We created a Windows Desktop App that can be used to generate high quality CVs within seconds after a user inputs his/her details into the relevant sections. After generating the CV, the user has the options to either print out the CV, visit a career suggestion site and to apply for jobs at sites like LinkedIn jobs.

How we built it

We used Windows Forms to design the interface of the App, we then used the C# programming language to modify how the different components of the program behave, components such as buttons, text boxes, message boxes etc.

Challenges we ran into

Most of our team members are used to coding using the Python Programming language and according to our research C# was one of the only languages that could enable us to create the best quality solution to the problem that was at hand. 2 of 5 of our team members had a broad idea of how to code in C# and the Visual Studio environment to the fullest so we had a slight delay and challenges on the development of the software..

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This is our first Hackathon as a team and we aren't used to working under so much time pressure. This served as a great learning experience to us. We got the chance to express how creative and innovative we can be.

What we learned

We learned that with the little we have, we can do just about anything if we utilise it fullest.

What's next for Intelligent Job Hunter

We plan to develop the application further such that it can contain additional features such as automated career suggestion, automated job application and more features that are related to skills development and tackling youth unemployment. We also plan to increase accessibility of the software by developing versions of it that cater for mobile phone devices of all platforms(Android OS, Apple OS, Windows Phones etc.)
