New User Registration (working)
This idea came to us because we've seen this problem numerous times in our city-Dehradun. There are multiple accidents and diseases like Dengue in which there is always urgent blood requirement but people have to run around for it. They call, put messages in Whatsapp groups and all of this causes a lot of delay. People who are willing to help never get to know about the urgency. Same case is with the Natural Calamities that occur and people don't know what's going on, how to be prepared and whom to contact.
Presently, people have to contact Blood Banks, relatives and friends to get blood support and this is a tedious task. Also, people are dependent on news channels for Weather predictions and Disaster warnings.
What it does
In this project, ‘one stop solution’ is provided to overcome the above two problems. The ‘Helping Hands’ website lets people connect with each other so they can be of help in case of emergencies, and also makes people aware of the Disaster reports so they can be well prepared. Common people, Blood Banks, Hospitals, and Disaster Aid organizations can make an account on this website and get updates regarding any blood requirement or disaster aid. Also, people and Blood banks can contact each other via email with a button click (will update with phone message service in future) if the required blood group matches the others' profile. Blood banks and Hospitals can also update their blood units left. This project covers only two of the modules of the entire idea. The idea is to create a platform where people can connect to help and get helped.
How is this different from a social networking site or a normal blood bank website?
- This is a social network that would focus only on Health emergencies. People can actually contact each other for help.
How we built it
We built this website using ASP.Net framework and C# programming language. For database, we used MS-SQL Server.
Challenges we ran into
Since this was our first Hackathon so it took us some time to think of a unique idea. Building a complete website for our idea is what challenged us. We have tried our best to cover as much modules and details possible in the given time. There are a lot of things that can be implemented more and ways in which the website can be made secure.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're really happy that we were able to think of an idea and also implemented it. The requirement of the platform presented in this idea is something that we believe is the need of the hour as it will bring people and organizations in need together.
What we learned
We've learned to think and work under deadline and pressure. This was a great experience.
What's next for Helping Hands - Connect to Help and Get Helped!
In this project, few modules of the Helping Hands platform have been implemented. In future, this would bring different Healthcare and Government organizations and people on one single platform to connect and to help in case of emergencies. Also, a much user-friendly and secure interface will be implemented. For now we've uploaded Analysis reports of Disasters but in future, we'll implement predictive analysis and help people prepare beforehand.
