We come from a country (Pakistan and India) where people who are disabled live in severe pain and depression. Due to bad economic condition, everyone is working for himself. The disabled one's are the people who get the worst blow. No jobs, no care taker, no money to eat food.
Due to our similar goals, social concerns and interest in bringing a change through technology, we came across this idea i.e. Guide Dog. In simple terms this application can be thought of as a dog that guides visually impaired people, however, the twist is that our dog can talk to people. We thought that vocal communication is the best way to make visually impaired understand, since they cannot see.
We divided our project into two parts:-
Ronak my other and only team member worked on the node.js and IBM BlueMix API, while I worked with OpenCV in C++. Due to Ronak's commendable experience with web technologies and my expertise in computer vision techniques and algorithm we stood out to be a great team. I worked with feature and object recognition part of the project where I trained the computer with data sets so that it can recognize common everyday objects. Ronak gave me the access to Watson's text to speech component using node.js and other backend technologies, that were critical to the success of the application. In our opinion this application has a lot of potential, especially i we have a big data set. We plan on working on it further and actually helping the people of our country and people of other countries aswell, making the lives of the unfortunate one's fortunate.
