Inspiration
Driving’s been a recurring thread, but tires on asphalt felt too grounded. I wanted pure lift-off energy, so I threw her on a jet ski slicing through neon-lit urban waterways: city strip meets open throttle, adrenaline baptized in summer glow.
What it does
It’s a high-octane splash of water sports: our Girlwork carving turquoise canals between skyscrapers, spraying mist like champagne, turning every turn into a victory lap. Pure escapist rush wrapped in shimmering synth-pop.
How we built it
Dug deep into the 20,000+ image archive. Keyframed everything to the beat, then cranked playback speed on dozens of clips—some 10-second renders got slammed to 300% just to match the track’s bounce. Easily the most render-heavy video in the entire Sandglass saga.
Challenges we ran into
This beast ate more GPU hours than anything else. AI defaults to dreamy slow-mo, so we were constantly fighting molasses pacing. Timing splashes, jumps, and turns to land exactly on kicks and snares turned into an obsessive editing marathon. Burnout was knocking hard by the final export.
Accomplishments that we’re proud of
We stuck the landing on the insane 3-hour continuous one-shot constraint across 50 videos—this jet ski sprint is the victory lap. It’s exhausting, but watching the whole album flow without a single cut still feels like wizardry.
What we learned
The one-shot rule was the spine that held Sandglass together and forced wild creativity, but it’s also a cage. Next record will probably shatter that mold—there are too many new AI video frontiers (longer context, better physics, actual choreography) that get choked by forcing everything into a single unbroken take. Time to evolve.
What’s next for Girlwork
A brand-new album is already cooked. Could drop soon if the real supporters show up strong. The West’s AI doomer crowd keeps screaming into the void, but over in the Chinese-speaking sphere people are actually vibing and sharing. Wrote the whole thing in Mandarin and Cantonese for a reason—they’re embracing the future instead of fearing it. Let’s see who feeds the next wave.
