Changing Perceptions about the use of social media

  • - Social media often receives bad stigma from traditional media outlets and employers causing users to feel the need to suppress their activity. GigMe reframes twitter not only as a productivity platform but as a passion platform✨. Gigme will mould the mindset of its users to think of Twitter as a place where they can share even more about what they were working on than before in a casual manner, and employers to see the individual for their ability and who they are above what their C.V or LinkedIn can portray.

Show, Don’t Tell

Dispels the perceived skill level of candidates and places emphasis on the projects and milestones they already share on a daily basis using twitter, showcasing their true ability.

What it does

The user will select his profession, skills or interests and gigme using our custom search computations would fetch the most relevant posts on twitter showcasing job openings, internship opportunities etc. User also has the ability to refine his search through various filters and can reach out to the person who tweeted the post. This Saves time, Optimises the search process and helps the user to take advantage of the abundant opportunities on Twitter which could have just diminished otherwise.

Finding Opportunities for everyone

  • - whilst Twitter makes it incredibly easy to find posts by keyword, it will prioritise showing potential opportunities to those who are already connected to those providing opportunities; this Is often reduced to friends, or friends of friends, making it a large problem for self taught producers, industry movers, those from less fortunate financial backgrounds and more to find those same opportunities. GigMe will optimise twitters opportunities to be made relevant to those based on the role or opportunity, helping to widen the network of those producers looking to improve their skills and find gigs.

Our Search Model

Usually search on general twitter app works well for simple searches for example "java" or "internship", "jobs" etc. But, when the query is like "java internships", "app development jobs" etc the things start to get tricky. We have worked on our backend in Gigme to show the most relevant results for such complex queries using the Twitter API. The user also has the choice to refine his query using the options like "Categories" and other filters.

How we built it/ Challenges we ran into

Working in a team with 3 different time zones was definitely a new experience for everyone. Figuring out a way to integrate complex queries to our app, coding the whole UI flawlessly and writing the logic to parse complex responses from api calls was a challenge to complete in such a short amount of time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are super proud to have implemented an idea we truly believed in. We have shown an actual run of the project instead of a design simulation and that feels good.

What we learned?

We have learnt so much in this short span of time. Learning to work with the Twitter API, managing UI integration with backend are a few skills we all have picked up.

What's next for gigme?

We would like to keep working on our search model to add more and more parameters for best matches. And also create a separate work flow for recruiters who are screening the twitter profiles of candidates to easily get an overview of the profile. Their are many other features we could add which resonate with the core idea of our product.
