C L O W N F I E S T A PRESENTS: Gardens by the HDBay

Gardens by the HDBay is a community-focused project designed to tackle food sustainability and security, by allowing people to easily grow their own food in HDBs. Gardens by the HDBay integrates edible gardens with HDBs. These gardens are equipped with a suite of sensors and microcontrollers, which are able to sense the moisture, pH, temperature, and sunlight exposure of the plants. This information will be collected by microcontrollers and uploaded to a cloud server, which can be accessed by users via a Telegram bot. The bot will update users on the status of the plants in real-time, prompting users if actions need to be taken, such as watering. This system acts as double-layered security: the bot teaches users how often to water each plant type, and the water sensing system ensures the correct amount of water is given.

Gardens by the HDBay will allow for better food sustainability and security for HDB residents, since less food will need to be imported, and will also tackle UN Sustainable Development Goal #2: to end hunger and achieve food security, and #11: to make cities more inclusive, resilient and sustainable.
