Inspiration
I grew up as a typical video game kid and always aspired to build my own game. I crash-coursed the Unity Game Engine during the spring break and decided to build my very first game for this hackathon.
What it does
It's a 3D version of the once-popular mobile game Flappy Bird.
How we built it
I used the Unity Engine, C#, and assets from the Unity Asset Store.
Challenges we ran into
Mostly technical ones: spawning obstacles, making the background scroll, implementing the UI, etc.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I built it in about 5 hours despite being a total Unity newbie :)
What we learned
Unity game development isn't rocket science :) I'm now confident enough to head out and work on my next game.
What's next for Flappy Bird in 3D!
I hope to improve the asset quality (more colorful birds, continuously rolling and changing game backgrounds, etc.) and add bonus features. For instance, you many unlock new birds and new cities that have special power-ups once you reach a certain high score.
