Fear of coronavirus has swept throughout the world, prompting many to buy disposable face masks, to the point where entire countries are in shortage of masks. When someone wears a mask, it automatically creates both a physical and psychological barrier between them and anyone they try to communicate with. My project aims to lift this uncomfortable barrier by allowing a person to express whatever wacky message they want through the 23 NeoPixels sewed into a reusable cloth face mask, able to be reprogrammed at any time. The default message I have programmed is simple: a smile. Through this funky twist on a normally-boring clothing item, I hope that people will no longer associate face masks with a isolation but with individuality and self-expression.
