Inspiration
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, everyone has been spending a lot more time on their electronic devices, no matter the age group. As university students, we are especially at an increased risk to this.
As a result, most people are experiencing increased eye fatigue and headaches. Many of our fellow peers have even gotten glasses in an attempt to further protect themselves.
What it does
A machine learning program that uses your webcam to detect any soreness in your eyes, and indicates that it is time for a break, along with the ability to suggest some eye exercises to do.
How we built it
We used python to make our program. To implement Machine Learning, we used the OpenCV library.
Challenges we ran into
Our biggest issue was implementing the reading and writing of our dataset to Google firebase, as we had no prior knowledge on how to do so.
Another issue was making a functional and good-looking UI using the TKinter library in python, as it was a lot of trial and error
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were surprised with the final result, as it was very tedious putting it all together
What we learned
Working with OpenCV/Machine Learning libraries, how to send and receive data from a database.
What's next for EyeSpy
We believe that our program has a very bright future. As the pandemic will be around for sometime, our program will allow all ages, especially those that still have developing visions, to reduce the effects of ruining their vision early on.
