Inspiration ☁
We were inspired by 911 calls by abuse victims who pretended to be making a pizza order to disguise their plea for help.
What it does ☁
Our app, called EATS (emergency alert & texting system) is designed to disguise a human trafficking report as a bakery delivery order.
How we built it ☁
We built this app using MIT App Inventor.
Challenges we ran into ☁
We ran into problems scheduling meetings due to our conflicting schedules. Because our team was formed late, we had less time to design and develop our app.
Accomplishments that we're proud of ☁
We are proud to have created an app that will drastically increase the number of liberated human trafficking survivors. This app will have a huge impact on the human trafficking industry in our city.
What we learned ☁
We learned the importance of research, as it helped us in developing an app that effectively aids human trafficking victims. The diversity in our team allowed our app to reach more demographics than we would have otherwise. We also learned that good collaboration is key to creating a well-thought-out app.
What's next for EATS (Emergency Alert & Texting Service) ☁
In the future, we'd like to add themes for the user to alternate between. This will further protect the true purpose of the app. We want to create a dashboard for emergency services to quickly identify users who need help. We want to improve the UI/UX of the app to create a better experience and lastly, we want to create an iOS version of EATS using Swift to increase the app's accessibility.
