Inspiration
We had a need for a different platform game; Something that didn't exist but something that is also as simple as Flappy Birds.
How it works
We used touchdevelop to make our game, and the way the game works is by having a user control the hero, and the hero has to avoid incoming obstacles by jumping over them. The unique feature of our app is the double jump; there is a green block in the middle of the screen, and if the hero touches it, they are enabled to use a double jump. Not only is it unique, but it's also simple and addictive like Flappy Birds
Challenges I ran into
The syntax was a huge challenge. Our only knowledge of programming is Java, so we had to adjust to touch develop really quickly to make the game possible. We attempted XCode, but it was too complex for our experience level. We had lots of glitches, such as our art getting pixelated as well as physics issues. The major problem was having the boxes clipping into the ground. So we used TouchDevelop, because it was good for our level of coding.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
What I learned
We learned not only coding, but we also learned teamwork, leadership, working under intense situations, and learning to have fun while competing in a competition.
What's next for DoubleJump - Sri Cherukuri, Mohit Kondle, Saad Hassan
Whats next is to bring it to the mobile platform, such as ios and android. We also want to add more features to the game, such as interchangeable character and difficultly levels.
