What it does
DocBook provides an easy-to-use web app for patients to easily book a doctor's appointment from the comfort of their own homes. We understand that booking an appointment by phone or in-person can at times be time-consuming or undesirable for self-conscious patients. However, with DocBook, patients can easily bypass this barrier in order to get the medical attention they require without the hassle of making a call or taking the time to visit the office.
How we built it
DocBook is built using React.js, Express.js, and MongoDB. Over the weekend, we set up a server, built an API and created the front-end of the app.
Challenges we ran into
- CORS is weird. We did not understand.
- React hooks are also weird. We also did not understand.
- There were many very interesting and distracting attractions like food.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
As high school students, we did not have the same degree of knowledge as most of the other hackers present at this hackathon. However, this did not stop us from showing up, learning a lot of new technologies, and most importantly, having an awesome weekend. Though there were a lot of obstacles along the way, we are very proud of everything we were able to achieve during this time.
What's next for DocBook
Despite the spectacular quality of our demo product, there are still many features and improvements that we have in mind for DocBook. In addition to a more professional UI, we will continue working on creating a more sophisticated registration portal, appointment booking options, and a UI for doctors to manage their accounts, view a generated timetable and more.
