What it does

The departures app shows departure times of public transport around San Francisco and the bay area in augmented reality. The app can be used with a minimum of user input and provides all relevant information in a single view.

The user just holds the iPhone into the air and already he sees realtime information on trains and buses. The user can select wether he wants to see the station boards in full screen or on a map.

If the user prefers a trip to space he can find departure time of rockets by pointing the iPhone upwards.

Challenges I ran into

We first developed the augmented reality with commercial augmented reality sdks but the quality was not satisfying. We had to implemented it ourselves.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

The Departures NYC App has won the "Grand Prize: Best Consumer/Transit Rider App" by MTA and AT&T and also the "Best Way-Finding Application for Novice Transit Riders" award. The Departures Switzerland app was listed by Apple as Best of 2013 and it was given a Swiss App Award.
