Inspiration
Our inspiration was simply to make cyber security principles simple and more accessible to increase engagement with cyber security. We wanted to design the game so that anyone could play and understand but still have the ability to learn something.
What it does
Cyber War is a two player game where each player starts with 5 servers. At the beginning of the game each player is given 3 assets that could range from a firewall unit, an attack unit like a virus or trojan horse, or a special two factor authentication shield! Each turn users have the option to attack if they have an attack unit or to skip their turn and draw. The goal of the game is to take out the other players servers.
How we built it
We built the game using Pygame and Python. We based it loosely off of UTSA's CIAS Cyber Threat Defender card game.
Challenges we ran into
Our biggest challenge was time. There were so many events at this hackathon that we all wanted to attended that we simply just ran out of time to finish the project.
What we learned
The best thing we really learned was how to work as a team to develop an app. We all came from different skill sets and backgrounds so finding out what each other works best with was essential for our success!
What's next for Cyber War
We want to continue to develop the game adding custom sprites and graphics, more attack and defense units, and our biggest goal is to implement Machine Learning and AI to have a single player game where the enemy learns to play against you.
