Inspiration

As members of many on-campus organizations, we all have a lot of experience working with the Student Organization Center (SOC) and the processes they require in order to hold on-campus events. Currently it is quite difficult to keep track of all the forms that need to be filled out and files that need to be submitted to the SOC, especially since there are different requirements for different types of events. The current platform, Presence, has quite limited functionality and is difficult to navigate. With Crescents, we would like to streamline the process of planning student organizations' events and ensure that they are all done properly.

What it does

We created three different user types, SOC admins, event organizers, and regular users, all of which can do different actions. For event organizers, Crescents walks students through the process of planning out an event for their student organization, requesting the required information and forms to make sure that all the proper documentation is completed. It also creates rsvp and check-in links so the event organizers can monitor attendance across events. For the SOC admins, they can approve all of the organizer's requests. For regular users, they can view all the upcoming events, rsvp to them, and also view all the student organizations.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This is our first time using auth0 to create different levels of permissions and access, which we are very proud of.

What's next for Crescents

In the future, we would like to provide event statistics for student organization leaders about attendance and member retention. We would also like to add a feature that suggests the best time to hold events based on previous attendance. For attendees, we would like to suggest student organizations and events to them based on their previous activities.
