Inspiration

The rising concern over climate change and the environmental impact of our daily activities inspired us to create the Carbon Footprint Calculator. We wanted to provide a tool that empowers individuals to understand and reduce their carbon footprint by making informed choices about transportation, waste management, and dietary habits. Our goal is to raise awareness and encourage sustainable living practices.

What it does

The Carbon Footprint Calculator is a web application that calculates the carbon emissions generated from various activities. Users can input data about their transportation methods, waste production, and food consumption. The application then calculates the corresponding carbon footprint and provides insights on how to reduce emissions. It helps users understand the impact of their lifestyle choices and promotes environmental responsibility.

How we built it

We built the Carbon Footprint Calculator by starting with Python for the backend, then translated into JavasScript to HMTL and CSS for the frontend. The backend, developed with Visual Studio Code using Python which handles the logic for calculating carbon emissions based on user inputs. The frontend/display end using HTML and CSS, provides a user-friendly interface for data input and displays the results of the carbon footprint calculations.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges we faced was ensuring accurate and reliable calculations for the carbon footprint based on diverse input parameters. There were also coding environment problems, link sharing issues, and designing an intuitive user interface that effectively conveys complex environmental data posed a challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of successfully developing a tool that can make a tangible impact by helping users reduce their carbon footprint.
