Inspiration The classic DVD screensaver was a quiet thrill. Everyone waited for that perfect moment when the logo would hit the corner. We wanted to recreate that—but with a twist: what if it never hit? What if satisfaction was impossible? That was the seed for this Reddit-native troll experience.
What it does It simulates the nostalgic DVD logo screensaver inside Reddit. The logo bounces endlessly but is mathematically cursed to never hit a wall or corner, pushing viewers into an absurd loop of anticipation and denial.
How we built it We used the Reddit Developer Platform to simulate motion within a Reddit post environment. Bolt.new handled the logic, visuals, and speed control. The bounce path was specifically coded to avoid all satisfying collisions—by design. Every angle, every bounce is a near miss.
Challenges we ran into Creating motion within Reddit’s limited sandbox was tricky. We had to tune the timing and movement manually to ensure the illusion felt real. Most of all, ensuring the logo never actually touched a wall without the loop feeling too artificial required careful tweaking.
Accomplishments that we're proud of We took a minimal idea and executed it to perfection. Watching viewers wait for something that will never happen has been its own reward. It’s simple, frustrating, and oddly captivating.
What we learned The Reddit Developer Platform is more versatile than expected. Subtle changes in user expectation can be more powerful than complex interaction. Frustration, if intentional and aesthetic, can be a feature—not a flaw.
