Inspiration
I was inspired by the Block Fort map from Mario Kart 64, one of my favorite battle royale arenas. Most other maps felt too big, but Block Fort was perfect for quick, fun gameplay. Since this competition focuses on mobile experiences, I thought this design would work well for fast, in-and-out battles in both VR and mobile. If Meta Horizon Worlds expands to consoles in the future, I believe this would also be a great addition for that platform.
What It Does
Battle Fort Horizon is a multiplayer arena designed for fast-paced, competitive gameplay. It features bold, colorful platforms and a nostalgic, dynamic design inspired by classic battle maps.
How We Built It
I built this world entirely in VR using the tools available in primitive mode. As a beginner with no prior experience, I had to teach myself how to create in Meta Horizon, from concept to completion.
Challenges We Ran Into
• Transitioning from using 3D assets to building entirely in primitive mode.
• Optimizing the design for both VR and mobile players to ensure a smooth experience.
• Teaching myself how to build from scratch as a complete beginner.
Accomplishments That We’re Proud Of
As a beginner, I’m proud of completing this project and bringing my vision to life. It was a huge learning experience, and I’m excited about what’s possible next.
What We Learned
I learned a lot about world-building in Meta Horizon, including the tools, design process, and the importance of optimizing for performance across platforms.
What’s Next for Battle Fort Horizon
In the future, I’d like to add skates to the avatars so players can skate around the arena, enhancing the gameplay experience.
